City council tonight approved a proclamation declaring October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Mayor Emery Doughtie read the proclamation with Councilwoman Suetta Scarbrough at his side.

The document encourages citizens to wear the pink awareness ribbon in recognition of the month and to honor those who have lost their lives as well as those still fighting the battle, “We further encourage individuals to become aware of their risk and ways to reduce it, to help others in their awareness and to discuss breast cancer screening with their healthcare providers.”

In another matter tonight, police Chief Jeff Hinton said trick-or-treating would be held October 31 from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
