Stacy A. Coggins has been promoted to position of Roanoke Rapids fire chief, according to City Manager Joseph Scherer.
Coggins replaces Chief Gary Corbet who retired in August.
Coggins was initially hired in November 1989 as firefighter.
He was promoted to fire engineer in April 1997 and then to fire lieutenant in August 2001.
In May of 2007 Coggins was appointed as interim fire chief upon the retirement of Fire Chief Kenneth Carawan and was named deputy fire chief in August 2007 upon hiring a permanent chief.
Scherer stated, “ Stacy was selected from some very qualified applicants. We feel that he will do an excellent job in this position and will serve the citizens and the City of Roanoke Rapids well for the years to come.”
Coggins resides in Roanoke Rapids with his wife Angela and his two sons Braxton and Ayden.
