The Roanoke Rapids Police Department is looking for a suspect in an early morning beating who allegedly left his victim with broken bones in his face.
The assault occurred between midnight and 12:30 this morning in the 100 block of Madison Street.
Deputy Chief Tommy Hathaway said a person described as a black male in his early 20s physically assaulted the victim. The man was described as having a stocky build and wearing a white T-shirt.
It is not clear what prompted the assault, which sent the victim to Halifax Regional Medical Center. The victim was then airlifted to another hospital, Hathaway said.
A canvass immediately following the assault yielded no results and police continue to track down leads and canvass the neighborhood this morning, Hathaway said.
Anyone with information is encouraged to call the police department at 252-533-2810 or Crimestoppers at 252-583-4444.
