A man who was ducking law enforcement since April was allegedly committing crimes while he was on the lam.
Now Jackie Putney Jr. faces a new count related to a stolen four-wheeler from the Everette School Road area, according to the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office.
Detective R. Somogyi said on July 13 officers responded to the area when a four-wheeler was reported stolen but the suspects had fled.
On July 22, Deputy Eric Johnson was patrolling in the Firetower and Wright roads area when he encountered a suspicious vehicle.

The investigation resulted in the recovery of the four-wheeler and the arrest of Tyrus Devon Davis, 30, of Greensboro. He was charged with possession of stolen goods.
Further investigation by Somogyi led to the arrest of Putney, who was already in the Halifax County Jail for breaking and entering charges in April.
He was charged with breaking and entering and received a $5,000 bond on top of the $30,000 bond levied when he was arrested in July, hiding in a bedroom of a house on Huckleberry Bottom Road.
He has a September 19 court date.
Somogyi praised the efforts of Johnson in the case. “Deputy Johnson’s knowledge of his patrol area and the community resulted in the successful apprehension of those involved and the recovery of the victim’s four wheeler.”
