There will be several chances to see fireworks Wednesday and again on Saturday.

Fireworks shows are scheduled on Wednesday in Halifax and Hobgood and on Saturday on Lake Gaston.

The Annual July 4th Celebration and Fireworks begins in Halifax at at 5:30 p.m. on the Halifax County Courthouse lawn. The Halifax State Historic Site will be open on July 4 from 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

There will be funnel cakes, ice cream, snow cones, popcorn and hotdogs as well as drinks.

At 5:30 p.m. Rising Star Karaoke will kick things off at the courthouse by playing a variety of beach,country and soft rock.

Character Antics will offer a variety of games and amusements. At 7:30 p.m. Cyrus Ahyoung do a fly-over andparachute jump.

A presentation of colors and military salute by the Roanoke Valley Veterans Museum will take place at 8 p.m., followed by the performance of the delegation scene by the actors of the historical outdoor drama First for Freedom.

The fireworks display by the Halifax Fire Department and HalifaxLion's Club will take place at 9 p.m.

Also on July 4th, there will be a celebration at the Hobgood Town Commons with a rain date of July 7.  

There will be food for sale beginning at 6 p.m, music and a pie eating contest beginning at 7 p.m.

There will be a military salute at 8:45 p.m and fireworks at around 9 p.m., sponsored by the Hobgood Volunteer Fire Department.

On Saturday, July 7, boats will be decked out in patriotic decorations during the annual Lake Gaston Boat Parade from 10:30 a.m. to noon atLake Gaston mile marker 17 at the entrance to Holly Grove Creek.

Later that night, fireworks will be launched over the water at the annual Lake Gaston Fireworks Celebration  from 9 to 10 p.m.
