A district court judge Wednesday found probable that Tony Martin allegedly exploited the trust of an elderly person and bound the case over to superior court.

Halifax County District Attorney Melissa Pelfrey declined further comment on the matter this afternoon other than to say no superior court date has been set.

According to a report filed by Roanoke Police Department Detective John Taylor, Martin, 46, of Hamilton Street, was charged following an investigation into alleged offenses that occurred from April 4 of last year to February 15.

The case summary signed off by a magistrate said the magistrate believes, based on the investigation by Taylor, that Martin allegedly exploited an elderly person more than 60-years-old.

The magistrate found probable cause that Martin allegedly used his standing in a position of trust, confidence or a business relationship to deceive the victim to obtain $183,000 with the intent to deprive the victim of the money temporarily or permanently to use for his benefit.
