Weldon Town Commissioners tonight approved a $4 million budget that calls for no tax increase or increases in water and sewer fees.
Interim Town Manager David Overton told the board the financial plan does reflect revenues are down from last year but it will include funds for renovations to public buildings, buy a new police car and some sidewalk improvements.
There is no appropriation from the general fund balance, the budget message notes.
The budget for the upcoming fiscal year will become effective July 1.
In another matter tonight, the town board approved an alarm ordinance, which requires property owners to register their home alarm systems with the Halifax County E-911 Central Communications Center. Registration is free and the forms can be found at this link.
The ordinance imposes a $25 fine for all false alarms but Overton said the first offense would result in a warning ticket.
