Two people involved in high profile crimes have taken pleas in superior court within the last week.

Ian Coles pled guilty on May 31 in the assault of two women on Roanoke Avenue in 2010 and Timothy Moran pled guilty to a January attempted murder.
Coles pled guilty to assault inflicting serious bodily injury, common law robbery and attempted common law robbery in a case in which he assaulted one woman at F&F Rentals and sprayed the assault victim and another woman in the business with pepper spray.
Halifax County District Attorney Melissa Pelfrey said his attorney asked for a probationary sentence for Coles but Judge Alma Hinton opted to sentence him to three to four years in prison.
Pelfrey said the victim who was assaulted spoke in open court about the crime. “She spoke about how she has been able to forgive and that she felt like he needed to understand how his actions affected the lives of other people.”

Meanwhile, on Monday Moran pled guilty to attempted murder in a January stabbing that occurred in a cul-de-sac of the Edgewater subdivision outside Roanoke Rapids.
The victim was left for dead but crawled to a residence to ask for help.
Moran was sentenced to 15 to 19 years for the crime, Pelfrey said, and admitted what he did to law enforcement. “He just wanted to plead guilty and take his time. He never really did say why he did it. He gave statements on the events that led up to it.”
Pelfrey said the victim has recovered well from the stabbing and was in court.
The district attorney declined further comment because the other defendants in the case have yet to be tried or take plea arrangements.
