A man wanted on a fugitive warrant from Virginia was arrested this morning following a traffic stop on Interstate 95.

Lieutenant Bobby Martin of the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office said Deputy C.E. Carroll stopped a car for a traffic violation around 4:30 a.m.

During the course of the investigation, Carroll learned the driver, Alfonzo Glover, 29, of Newport News, was allegedly giving him false information on his actual identity.

Learning his real name, Carroll discovered Glover was wanted in Virginia and charged him with no operators license, giving false information to an officer and being a fugitive from another state.

He was jailed without opportunity for bond and has an August 1 court date.

Meanwhile, the passenger, Amber Podell, 28, of Newport News, was charged after she came to the jail to check on Glover.

Doing a safety check of Podell before she was allowed to talk to her boyfriend, Carroll found a user amount of marijuana and 10 ecstasy pills in her purse.

Podell was charged with the following: Allow person to drive with no license, seatbelt violation, possession of controlled substance at a jail, felony possession of schedule I, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, felony maintain a vehicle for controlled substance and harboring a fugitive. She was jailed on $5,000 bond and also has an August 1 court date.
