A 25-year-old Greenville man has been charged with engaging in sexual activity with a 15-year-old girl.

Joseph Allen Braxton was charged by the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office with seven counts of statutory rape, seven counts of indecent liberties with a child and seven counts of crimes against nature.

Major Bruce Temple of the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office said Pitt County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested Braxton at a relative’s house without incident.

Temple said the crimes allegedly occurred between October and April in the Roanoke Rapids area.

The girl is an acquaintance and the victim’s family reported the crime.

Braxton is being held in the Pitt County detention facility. Bond was not known. His Halifax County court date is scheduled for June 6.
