The Halifax County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a sex crime against a child Sunday and arrested a 52-year-old man.

Major Bruce Temple said investigation by Detective O.B. Wiltsie resulted in the arrest of Clifton Ray Nethery II of Halifax.

Nethery was arrested without incident at his residence and charged with second-degree sexual offense and indecent liberties with a child. He was jailed under a $125,000 bond and has a May 23 court date.

Temple said these charges stem from inappropriate touching of the 13-year-old victim.

Nethery was familiar with the child, Temple said.
