A Weldon woman was charged today with 57 counts of felony embezzlement following an investigation that began in February.

Detective J. Sealey of the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office said Angela Nicole Murray was in a fiduciary role with the business in the town of Halifax she allegedly embezzled more than $7,000 from in a period from last to May to this January.

Sealey said it was not clear how the company caught the embezzlement but did say Murray was in a role where she handled money from start to finish and that anything over small amounts would be noticed.

The 57 counts represent the number of times she allegedly pocketed cash from the business, which Sealey said did not want its name published.

Murray was jailed on $50,000 bond and is awaiting an April 18 court appearance.
