The Halifax County Sheriff’s Office is seeking information on known sellers, buyers and manufacturers after 11.9 grams of what is suspected to be methamphetamine was found in a raid last week.

The search off Kincaid Drive in Roanoke Rapids also yielded the discovery of an undisclosed user amount of marijuana, multiple drug user paraphernalia and property suspected of being stolen.

The suspected meth has been sent to the North Carolina Crime Lab for analysis, said Narcotics Agent J. Puhak.

The raid, according to a press release, stems from community complaints and agent investigative work.

Puhak told rrspin.com investigators both locally and on the state level are investigating to see where the meth came from. “Anyone with information on meth labs, sellers and users needs to be followed up on because meth is a serious problem. Labs are dangerous and cause uncontrollable fires and explosions along with health risks,” Puhak said.

He declined to comment when asked this afternoon about intelligence on any working meth labs in Halifax County. “That’s why we’re taking the proper steps to do follow-up in the area. Its risks go beyond the users and sellers, people residing around labs are at risk.”

Puhak said in the press release two search warrants have been executed at the residence of Joseph Leon Shaw, 38, one on March 15 that resulted in the meth discovery and another one today.

A positive test for meth will up the criminal charges for Shaw, Puhak said. The amount of suspected meth seized has a street value of approximately $1,200.

During the search last week agents also arrested Robert Earl Tabron, 45, of the Littleton area for allegedly having user amounts of crack cocaine and drug paraphernalia on him.

During follow-up efforts, the sheriff’s office discovered that a laptop seized during the initial search warrant was stolen.

In the summer of 2011 an unnamed Roanoke Rapids resident reported the laptop stolen to the Roanoke Rapids Police Department.

Warrants were drafted for Shaw for felony possession of stolen goods. The computer was returned to its rightful owner.

Today the sheriff’s office executed another search warrant and Shaw was allegedly found to be in possession of an undisclosed user amount of marijuana. He was taken into custody for the stolen goods charge and the additional marijuana found.

He currently faces the following charges: Felony possession of stolen goods, misdemeanor maintaining a dwelling for a controlled substance, two counts of misdemeanor marijuana possession and possession of drug paraphernalia. “Mr. Shaw will face much more serious methamphetamine charges if results come back positive,” Puhak said in the news release.

His initial appearance court date is scheduled April 4 and he was jailed on $6,000 bond.

Tabron was jailed on $2,000 bond and has an April 4 court date.
