A manhunt is under way in the Heathsville area for a man who apparently ditched a stolen car from Vance County at the Heathsville Road and Beaver Dam Road intersection.
Major Bruce Temple of the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office said deputies and investigators learned of the stolen vehicle while answering a breaking and entering call in the area.
The man, whose name is not known at this time, has apparently tried to break into two cars in the area after the stolen one broke down or ran out of gas.
The person is described as a white male standing 6 feet, 5 inches tall with a slender build and short hair. He has facial hair and is wearing dark clothing.
Currently the sheriff’s office is doing a canine search, using the state Highway Patrol helicopter and going to door to door to make sure residents are OK as well as letting them know a search is in progress.
Temple said the man is believed to be in the immediate area. Anyone with information is encouraged to call 911.
