Several tires were cut over the weekend in Roanoke Rapids, according to the city police department.

“It’s a total lack of respect for people’s property,” Captain Andy Jackson said. “We’re looking to find the culprits who are doing this and encouraging anyone who sees suspicious activity to please contact the police as soon as possible.”

It is a crime that cuts into the wallets and pocketbooks of the victims, Jackson said. “Tires aren’t cheap anymore.”

Jackson believes the same person, simply for meanness, is cutting the tires.

Little can be done to prevent it. “A lot of it involves the community getting together and reporting anything out of the ordinary as soon as possible.”

The crime is being committed some time in the night, typically after 8 p.m.

Locations of the tire slashing are as follows:

1206 Virginia Avenue where the driver’s side tire of a pickup was cut.

47 Monroe Street where two tires were cut on a trailer.

814 Stoneybrook.

1220 Charlotte Street.

22 Cedar Street.

902 Carolina Street.
