Already jailed for two armed robberies in Roanoke Rapids, Prentis Markeith Crossen has allegedly admitted to committing three armed robberies in Weldon.
Captain James Avens of the Weldon Police Department said the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office would serve warrants to Crossen today.
Crossen will be charged in the recent armed robbery of the Family Dollar in Weldon, facing an attempted armed robbery count when he tried to allegedly rob the clerk, who froze. He will also face a charged of armed robbery for allegedly stealing cash from a customer after the clerk froze.
Avens said Crossen, 19, of Garysburg, will also be charged in the September 12 armed robbery of the Blue Flame, as well as the May 13 robbery of the Blue Flame.
Avens said Crossen is also allegedly a suspect in the robbery of a teacher on Sixth Street and a Domino’s driver.
Crossen allegedly committed the robberies to feed a drug habit, Avens said.
He is also considered to be a suspect in the recent robbery of the Village Grocery at the Interstate 95-Highway-46 interchange in Northampton County.
While Crossen allegedly confessed to the robberies, Avens said it took a cooperative effort between several agencies in the area to investigate and develop him as the suspect. “It’s always a plus when you get multiple resources to come together and a close a case involving the same suspect.”
