A Roanoke Rapids man has been charged in the January theft of 48 samurai swords and other items from a residence on Carolina Avenue.

Anthony Logan Childers, 20, of the 500 block of Hamilton Street, faces charges of second-degree burglary, two counts of obtaining property by false pretense, one count possession of stolen property, one count larceny after breaking and entering, one count injury to personal property and one count of injury to real property.

Childers was jailed on $22,500 bond after his arrest Friday by Roanoke Rapids Police Detective John Taylor.

His arrest stemmed from a call on January 26 that was investigated initially by Officer Daniel Hundley.

The homeowner called to report a break-in and Hundley and Taylor discovered entry was attempted at a window on the west wide of the house as well as the south side.

Processing the scene Taylor discovered there was back door glass broken and $4,000 worth of swords, assorted jewelry, a digital camcorder and nine Zippo lighters taken.

Investigation revealed that Childers, who knew the victim, allegedly sold swords to pawn shops, trading posts and individuals, Captain Andy Jackson said.

About 11 swords, which are the kind featured in the movie Kill Bill, were recovered, along with four Zippo lighters, knives and a camcorder.

Childers has a March 5 court date.
