The first baby of 2012 in Halifax County is a 6 pound, 8ounce boy born to a Roanoke Rapids couple last Monday.
Swain Lijah Browder is the son of Swain and Elizabeth Browder, and is the couple’s second son. Each has a son from a previous marriage.
Swain was born at 3:24 p.m. in The Birthing Center at Halifax Regional. He is 18 ¾ inches. His mother says Swain looks like both his mother and father.
Elizabeth had a “quick and smooth” delivery, according to her primary nurse, Emily Stacy, RN.
For her part, Elizabeth said she was watching television Sunday night when mild pains began. Later, the pain got worse, and her husband brought her to the Medical Center.
“Swain is special for two reasons,” Elizabeth said. “First, it will be my last child, and secondly, he is a ‘Halifax Regional’ baby.'”
As the first baby of the year, Swain received a gift basket from the Medical Center.
Lawrence Singer, M.D., delivered Swain.
