Roanoke Rapids police continue to investigate a Sunday morning shots fired call at River View Court Apartments.

Captain Andy Jackson said the call was received around 4 a.m. and victims told police they saw a Ford F 250 dually pulling in the lot as they were returning home. Victims initially thought it might be a repo truck but then the truck pulled in front of them and a window came down. The witnesses said when they saw a gun being lifted through an open window, they ran, the two women heading for the apartments and the men going behind the building.

Several shots were fired and the truck circled through again before exiting on Old Farm Road and heading to Highway 158. Jackson the dually used in the shooting was a different color than the one used in the P&A Pawn Shop robbery and is not believed to the same vehicle.

Investigators recovered four .45-caliber shells from the parking parking and bullets entered two apartment buildings, causing about $700 in damages.

It is believed this was a retaliatory shooting. Jackson declined further comment.

He said there were several shots fired calls after New Year's Eve, most in celebration but the one at River View thought to be deliberate.

Another was reported at 309 Madison Street where a bullet entered the house.
