Kelly Lasky, a municipal planner with Rivers & Associates of Greenville, has been appointed the city’s new director of Planning & Development effective September 15.

She replaces Amanda Jarratt who recently assumed the position of marketing director with the Southampton County Economic Development Department.

For the last three months, Lasky has been assisting the City’s Planning & Development Department as the consultant planner.

As a planner in her present position with Rivers & Associates, her work included responsibilities for comprehensive plan development, facilitation of public participation, preparation of environmental assessments, and seeking Federal and State grants and loans, applications and related administration.

At the Town of Wrightsville Beach, she served as planner and code enforcement officer for approximately two years.

In this capacity, she administered the zoning and land use codes and drafted ordinances.  Also, Lasky evaluated proposed developments including performing environmental assessments.

Besides serving as the city lanner, she will be responsible for the Inspection Division including minimum housing, grant administration, and the coordination of the community development program.

In making the appointment, Ed Wyatt, interim city manager, said that “we are most pleased that Ms. Lasky has accepted the city’s position due to her professional commitment to city planning, her great interest in the position she will assume, and her current experience with the city.”

Lasky received her bachelor of arts in environmental studies in from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington in 2005.  She has completed a number of continuing education certification programs including Wetland Determination and Delineation and Introduction to Planning Practice in North Carolina.

She and her husband will move to Roanoke Rapids shortly.
