Dominion Power says 75 percent of the area's power should be restored by Wednesday, with 95 percent restored by Friday. After that it should be restored by Saturday.
Dominion spokesman Gregory Edwards said he could not give a specific time for the completion of power restoration in Roanoke Rapids and Weldon. “The damage to our system there is extensive from downed trees, which have brought many poles and wires down. Crews in those areas are working very hard and around the clock, making the repairs first that will get critical infrastructure and the most customers back in service.”
Edwards said the company appreciates the patience of the customers in a difficult time. “Our goal is to have all of our 1.2 million customers in Virginia and North Carolina who lost power to Hurricane Irene restored by Saturday.”
In an interview earlier today Edwards said customers who remain without power should call 1-866-366-4357 to report their outages, no matter if neighbors have reported theirs or they are on a major route.
Edwards said the priority in power restoration is given first to public safety. Following that is infrastructures like water and sewer and getting hospitals and nursing homes up. “This is the second largest restoration we have had to do since Isabel in 2003.”
