Deputies serving an outstanding warrant charged a woman with two counts of child abuse when they discovered drugs were being used inside the house Tuesday.

Erica Shantelle Ivey, 24, of Roanoke Rapids, also faces charges of possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and maintaining a dwelling.

Lieutenant Chuck Hasty of the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office said deputies Herbert Williams and Harold Phillips were going to a house on Duke Street to serve a warrant. During the search they discovered marijuana and paraphernalia. Two children were in the house.

Ivey was jailed on $2,500 bond and has a May 10 court date.

The children were turned over to other family members and the Department of Social Services was notified, Hasty said.
