A report of a woman being kidnapped Tuesday night has landed a Roanoke Rapids man in jail.

Detective James Matthews of the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call saying a woman was being kidnapped on Rhea Smith Road off Highway 48.

Matthews located the victim and after speaking to her arrested Michael Wayne Lee, 20.

He was charged with second degree kidnapping and assault on a female. He was jailed on $100,000 bond and has an April 6 court date.

The victim was not injured.
