An attempted shooting Wednesday led to the arrest of a Scotland Neck man, not only for the shooting but for pot plants found in his house.

Lieutenant George Evans of the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office said Deputy Steven Casey responded to the area of Highway 258 north of Scotland Neck for a woman being shot at, allegedly by Steven Drew, 38.

Casey arrived and spoke with the victim and found Drew was armed, carrying a .22-caliber rifle. He also found marijuana plants growing in a plant pot in the house.

Drew was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with the intent to kill, simple assault and manufacturing marijuana.

No one was injured and the gun was seized. Drew was jailed without opportunity for bond and has a May 4 court date.
