On Saturday, Officer Roy Ball of the city’s police department arrested Laverne Bradley, 66, for possession of schedule II — crack cocaine — and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Ball was patrolling the community shortly before 9:45 p.m. when he stopped a 1985 Buick for suspicious behavior.

When he approached the vehicle he allegedly saw a crack rock in Bradley’s lap and two push rods for a crack pipe beside him in the car.

Bradley was jailed on $500 secure bond and has a May 25 court date.

On Sunday, Ball arrested Gino Mitchell Jr., 38, of Roanoke Rapids, for a probation violation from Guilford County and possession of drug paraphernalia.

When Ball stopped the vehicle he learned Mitchell had an outstanding order for arrest and discovered a crack pipe in the car.

Lieutenant O.L. Morgan assisted Ball in the stop, which occurred shortly before 11:30 p.m.

Mitchell was jailed on $500 secured bond.

The enforcement is part of the police department’s effort to address citizen concerns in the community, Captain Andy Jackson said.
