A Gaston man was arrested Thursday for allegedly selling marijuana within a school zone.
Roanoke Rapids police officer Rich Somogyi was patrolling around Chaloner Middle School when he turned off Virginia Avenue onto Lewis Street.
There Captain Andy Jackson said the officer saw a man standing in the road drinking a beer around 3:20 p.m.
Upon further investigation the officer discovered the man had marijuana on him and the person he was talking to in a car had marijuana.
Somogyi found marijuana and digital scales which appeared to have a white powder residue on them.
Tierra Jordan, 27, of Old Emporia Road, Gaston, was charged with possession of schedule VI, possession with intent to sell and deliver schedule VI, possession of drug paraphernalia and manufacture and sell marijuana within 1,000 feet of a school zone. He was also served an outstanding warrant for a probation and parole violation. He was jailed on a $7,500 secured bond and has a March 20 court date.
Meanwhile Somogyi ticketed Roscoe Leon Hawkins Jr., 27, of Roanoke Rapids, for possession of marijuana and gave him a city ordinance violation for the beer. He has a March 30 court date.
Three other people were arrested on outstanding warrants:
Delontae Thomas, 33, of Margaretsville, for giving fictitious information to an officer.
Allen Robinson, 46, of Murfreesboro, for driving while license revoked and larceny of a motor vehicle.
Richard Thomas, of Dreweryville, Virginia, for driving while license revoked.
