Robert Merritt, who owns an industrial piping company in his hometown of Roanoke Rapids, could barely contain himself when he realized he had won the top prize on his $500,000 Jingle Jackpot ticket.
After scratching the ticket in his truck, which he purchased at Bobby’s Grocery on Bolling Road in Roanoke Rapids, he drove home to tell his wife, according to a North Carolina Lottery press release.
“I was trembling,” Merritt said. “It feels nice. I can’t believe this.”
Merritt plans to deposit his winnings, worth $340,003 after taxes, into a savings account. As of Monday, one top prize remains in the game.
