A traffic stop led to the recovery of pills and marijuana as well as charges for the driver of the vehicle, according to the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office.

Lieutenant Chuck Hasty said Deputy C.E. Carroll stopped the vehicle on Highway 48 in Roanoke Rapids Saturday.

Carroll learned Louis Donnell Hawkins, 23, was the driver and following a search of the vehicle discovered marijuana, drug paraphernalia, pills and a shotgun.

He was charged with possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and prescription label violation.

Because a 15-year-old was in the vehicle, Hawkins was also charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Two 17-year-olds were also in the vehicle, Major Bruce Temple said.

Hawkins was jailed on $3,000 bond and has a January 18 court date.
