One man was killed and the driver of a Mitsubishi sport utility vehicle received extensive injuries in a single vehicle crash on Grant Drive outside Roanoke Rapids Sunday morning.
Sergeant R.E. Dudley of the state Highway Patrol said the man killed, Marcus Marquett Robinson, 27, of Roanoke Rapids, was a passenger in the vehicle driven by Quinton Ray Scott, 29, who is also from Roanoke Rapids.
Both men were ejected from the vehicle, which wrecked after the driver negotiated a sharp curve at least 20 miles per hour over the posted 35 miles per hour limit, Dudley said.

The vehicle ran off the road to the right, hit a ditch and began to overturn as went airborne before striking a utility pole.
Thus far Scott, who was taken to Pitt Memorial Hospital in Greenville after initial transport to Halifax Regional Medical Center, has been charged with DWI and reckless driving. More charges are pending, Dudley said.
The wreck occurred shortly before 1:30 a.m. Both men were not wearing seat belts.
