Roanoke Rapids police have identified the person they believe robbed Southern Bank on February 9.
Chief Hinton Jeff Hinton this morning declined to release the name of the person but said detectives are working with agencies outside the area to apprehend the man.
The man fled Southern Bank that afternoon with an undisclosed amount of cash, Roanoke Rapids police said.
The robbery occurred shortly before 4 p.m. when a person described as a young white male wearing a ski hat and sunglasses entered the bank on 10th Street and demanded money from a clerk, Deputy Chief Adam Bondarek said.
He left the bank through the back door and was last seen running toward the residential section behind the institution.
One customer was in the bank at the time of the robbery. It was not clear whether a gun was used as the investigation continues. No one was hurt.
The person who robbed the bank had a slight build and his face was pockmarked, Bondarek said.
