The Gaston Police Department is investigating an attempted armed robbery that occurred shortly after 10 p.m. Tuesday.

The store owner apparently fought back and thwarted the robbery attempt but had to be treated for injuries sustained.

Gaston Police Chief Randy Griffin said a black male dressed in all black with a black T-shirt covering his face entered the Gaston Food Mart at Highway 46 and Bay Street. The man was armed with a shotgun.
