A meeting to interview applicants to temporarily run the Roanoke Rapids Theatre is set for Tuesday morning.
The meeting will be held at 10 a.m. in the first floor conference room of city hall, City Manager Paul Sabiston said.
Most of the meeting is expected to be in open session unless sensitive financial information needs to be discussed. “We’re going to try to lay it out so there are no surprises and give it the respect this needs,” Sabiston said.
Council could vote on choosing one of the applicants.
Sabiston said he would have liked to have seen more applications come in. “It would be nice to have three or four. It’s a tough situation. This isn’t another situation like the long term situations in the past.”
The city received two proposals, one from Elizabeth Price Branham and one from Russell Collins. Wally and Maria Hurst, who run Lakeland Theatre Company, pulled their proposal.
Mayor Emery Doughtie said the meeting will give people a chance to understand who will be running the venue and who will be paying the bills. “Everyone wants it to be as open as it can be.”
