The Halifax County Cooperative Extension Service is currently recruiting craft and food vendors as well as entertainment for Halifax Harvest Day, which will take place October 2 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Harvest Day takes place on the grounds of the 4-H Rural Life Center located on Highway 903.

A letter to the vendors notes due to low attendance from school groups on Friday and budget restrictions organizers have decided to hold the event only on Saturday this year. “We feel that with focusing our efforts on one day we can make the event even bigger and better than years before,” the letter says.

Oragnizers are looking for crafters to demonstrate their craft as well as sell their items. Preference will be given to heritage crafters but all crafters are encouraged to apply. If you demonstrate and sell your craft the fee is $10. If you are just demonstrating and not selling there is no cost.

To qualify as a demonstrating vendor you much perform and discuss your craft on the spot. Those crafters just selling their crafts will be charged a $35 vendor fee. All crafts should be handmade original works.

Crafters must provide their own tables, chairs and tents if needed. There will be limited electrical and water hook ups.

Organizers are looking for vendors to sell a wide variety of items. “We encourage churches and civic groups that cook for fundraisers to participate as well as commercial vendors.

“The event does start at 9 a.m. so we do encourage vendors to sell breakfast items as well.”

The registration fee for commercial food vendors is $50. There will not be a registration fee for non-profit vendors.

Commercial vendors must provide a certificate of insurance for liability and worker’s compensation with the application. The cost for temporary food permits in North Carolina is $50. This fee is mandated by the State Health Department and collected by local health departments. Thus, the commercial vendor fee is a total of $100.

There is no fee for nonprofit vendors but a copy of the 501-C3 form for tax exemption is required. If vendors carry insurance they are to provide a copy of the certificate of insurance with the application no later than September 17.

If you do not carry insurance this is not a problem and will not keep you from participating in this event. You must sign up as a non-profit vendor by the September 17 deadline to qualify as a non-profit vendor.

Organizers encourage churches, school groups and individuals to apply as entertainers. Bands, choirs, soloists, instrumentalist, comedians, magicians and others are all encouraged to apply. There will be no compensation for entertainers, however, there will be no registration fees for those providing entertainment.

Most performances will take place on the covered stage at the 4-H Rural Life Center. If you prefer to be a roving entertainer please note this on the application. The stage does have a sound system, which includes microphones.

There will be an entertainment schedule that will be included on the promotional materials for the event.

The deadline for entertainers is Wednesday.
