A Virginia truck driver died Saturday morning after hitting a motorcycle which was dislodged from a trailer. The vehicle pulling it bumped a guardrail, the state Highway Patrol said this morning.

An initial report by Trooper Scott Richardson says the vehicle pulling the motorcycle on Interstate 95 ran off the road around 1:30 a.m. in the southbound lane about 2.5 miles outside Gaston.

When the vehicle hit the guardrail, the motorcycle was dislodged from the trailer and landed in the roadway.

A tractor-trailer driven by Willie Beale Jr. ran over the motorcycle and the cab burst into flames. Beale, 53, of Colonial Heights, Va., was pulled from the cab but died three hours later from injuries sustained in the collision.

He suffered extensive internal injuries and broke two vertebrae in his neck.

No further details were immediately available.
