• The Halifax County Sheriff's Office said it will file robbery and assault charges against a kidnapping suspect once the man is caught.

Lt. Bobby Martin said this morning investigators still don't have the name of the man who abducted a woman in Wayne County and forced her to drive him in her car.

He said it is the most likely the man has fled the area.

The man knocked a 32-year-old woman unconscious after her car ran out of gas on Interstate 95 near the 158 mile marker. He also took the woman’s purse and necklace.

Trooper Tare Davis of the state Highway Patrol found the woman around 4:30 this Wednesday morning. Law enforcement and troopers were notified and the woman was taken to Halifax Regional Medical Center in Roanoke Rapids where she was treated. The woman is OK, Martin said.

The suspect is described as a white male standing between 5 feet, 5 inches and 5 feet, 7 inches and weighing around 200 pounds.

He was wearing a green shirt, tan cargo shorts and is between 35- to 40-years-old. His blondish, gray hair is thinning on top and he appears not to have shaved for a few days.

The man’s name is not known at this time.
