An argument over the price of a car which wasn’t for sale resulted in the arrest of a Hollister man for allegedly shooting and injuring one of the men he was arguing with yesterday.

Detective Tyree Davis of the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office said Steven Williams, 25, of the Warren County area of Hollister was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury. He was jailed on $20,000 bond and has an Oct. 7 court date.

The shooting occurred around 3 p.m. between Lynch’s Barbecue and Lynch’s Wrecker Service in Hollister when Williams and three other men were talking about Williams’ Cadillac, Davis said.

The men began talking about how they wouldn’t pay such and such price for it and an argument ensued, the three men approaching Williams.

Williams went to his car for protection and as he pulled off allegedly fired bird shot from a shotgun, striking a 21-year-old man, who Davis declined to name, in the face and arm.

Accounts differ on what happened, the group the victim was with saying Williams threatened to kill them and Williams saying he shot into the ground to scare them.

The victim was treated and released from Halifax Regional Medical Center in Roanoke Rapids. The case remains under investigation as there were unsubstantiated reports the other two men were struck, Davis said.
