Roanoke Rapids police arrested a man in a shooting that occurred this morning, Chief Jeff Hinton said, and also arrested his girlfriend for allegedly beating him.

Hinton said in a news release officers responded to a report of shooting at 515 Whitaker Street this morning around 3:30. He said, however, the shooting occurred around 1:30 but wasn’t reported until later. 

Erica Williams, 26, of Roanoke Rapids, had a fight with her boyfriend, Jeremy East, 29, also of Roanoke Rapids, at her residence on Whitaker Street when East was shot in the leg. 

Detective Corey Dixon investigated the case and charged East with assault on a female and Williams with assault with a deadly weapon. Both went to jail under no bond for domestic violence offenses.
