The Weldon Police Department Tuesday night arrested a sex offender who failed to report an address change to the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office.

Chief Mark Macon said Rodney Williams, 34, had been staying at the Interstate Inn where complaints were filed he was allegedly selling drugs.

Corporal Chris Buffaloe obtained a search warrant and with help from Sergeant Chris Davis, the sheriff’s office and Roanoke Rapids police, searched the room with his dog, Tyson.

Officers seized scales and 1.10 grams of marijuana. An off-white rock substance was found on the scales and will be sent for analysis, Macon said.

Williams was charged with failing to register as a sex offender, possession of schedule VI and possession of drug paraphernalia.

He was jailed on $5,500 bond.
