A Roanoke Rapids woman was charged Monday with two counts of child abuse and two counts of contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile after allegedly leaving her two children in a motel room while she was drunk.

Major Bruce Temple of the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office said Shanelle Lashone Edmonds, 26, was served the warrants following an investigation by Deputy Josh Clark.

Clark approached Edmonds in a parking lot of a local motel after determining she was “very intoxicated.”

Investigation also revealed she left the children unattended in a room that was in disorder and described as an unhealthy environment.

The Halifax County Department of  Social Services responded to a request from Clark and assisted in child placement.

Edmonds was jailed in lieu of $5,000 bond and has a July 28 court date.
