One of two people charged in April for allegedly stealing money from drink machines in Roanoke Rapids and Halifax County now faces an additional count.
Lieutenant Bobby Martin of the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office said Frank Burgess, 35, now faces four counts of larceny by employee. He was arrested Wednesday.
Martin said the charges stem from followup investigation and surveillance where Burgess, an employee of McPherson Beverages, would allegedly take money from drink machines, give a portion to the company and keep some for himself.
Investigation into Burgess and Phalanese Calvin Cooper, 30, began from an internal investigation by the company, which determined sales from the vending machines did not match what was being returned at the end of the day.
For the new charge Burgess was carried before the magistrate and placed under a $1,000 bond with a June 9 court date.
In April Burgess and Cooper were charged with three counts each of larceny by employee.
The two have allegedly been doing this since the first of the year. Martin has declined to say how much money was taken.
