One man is in custody and another who is considered armed and dangerous is sought following a shooting Saturday morning at Quiet Circle outside Roanoke Rapids.

Halifax County Sheriff’s Office Detective Jonathan Merritt said deputies responded to a disturbance call involving a gun around 2:45 a.m.

When Corporal Chris Scott arrived he found Nathan Brooks Twisdale, 27, of Roanoke Rapids, had been shot in the left hip. Twisdale was transported to Halifax Regional Medical Center where he was treated and released.

During further investigation it was found Twisdale and the female home owner had been in an ongoing relationship when she obtained a domestic violence protective order against him.

According to witnesses, Justin David Luce, 22, also of Roanoke Rapids, was with the woman when Twisdale forced entry into the home through the front door and went to the bedroom where the couple was.

An altercation ensued with the female trying to get Twisdale to leave when Luce grabbed what Merritt described as a strategically placed handgun and fired two rounds at Twisdale with one striking him in the hip.

Witnesses said Luce immediately fled leaving his shoes, shirt, vehicle and other personal belongings behind. Luce was still armed when he left and is considered armed and dangerous.

Twisdale, who turned himself in Monday night, was charged with one count of breaking and entering, domestic criminal trespass and violation of a domestic violence protective order.

Luce is wanted for one count of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Luce is asked to contact the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office at 252-583-8201 or Halifax County Crimestoppers at 252-583-4444.
