Two men were arrested this morning following a short vehicle chase into Rocky Mount, according to the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office.

Detective Jonathan Merritt said Robert Douglas Farrar, 57, of Tarboro, and Lester Darnell Scott, 42, of Rocky Mount, were apprehended by officers from the Rocky Mount Police Department shortly after allegedly breaking into a shed on Highway 48 in the Glenview community.

At approximately 8:25 a.m., the men were seen loading items from the shed onto the victim’s trailer and then driving off with the trailer and items.

When deputies arrived the men had left but they determined the suspects were last seen traveling south on Highway 48 toward Nash County.

Merritt said Lieutenant Neil Aycock quickly broadcast a description of the suspects and the vehicle to Rocky Mount police whose officers observed the vehicle in the Gold Rock community.

Officers attempted to stop the vehicle and a pursuit ensued. After a short chase officers stopped the vehicle.

Farrar and Scott were apprehended and the victim’s property was located and returned. After further investigation officers discovered the Toyota Tacoma the two men used was reported stolen last week from Henrico County, Virginia.

Deputy B. L. Knight charged Farrar and Scott with breaking and entering and felony larceny. Farrar was held on a $30,500 bond and Scott was held on a $20,000 bond, both with May 26 court dates.
