Jonathan Davenport, a former car executive in Roanoke Rapids, turned himself into Dare County authorities Monday night, the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office said.

Captain Jay Burch said Davenport, who was wanted in Halifax County for one count of embezzlement from Alliance Nissan in Roanoke Rapids, was released from custody on a $15,000 unsecured bond. He has a May 19 court date.

Burch said earlier today the count stems from Davenport allegedly taking a 2005 Honda CRV from the lot.

Burch said more charges could be filed and expects civil complaints to be filed against Davenport, who worked at Alliance from January to November of last year.

He declined to go into specifics of the case but did say Davenport was in a manager’s position where he had access to every car traded on the lot.

WVEC news reported Friday that Davenport was indicted April 30 on six counts of felony larceny in Pasquotank County.

Authorities accuse Davenport of stealing six cars off the lot at Alliance Nissan and selling some of them on the side.

Davenport was a minority owner at Alliance.

On Friday, Davenport said the allegations were untrue and the result of a misunderstanding.
