Weldon has received a $306,000 Rural Center grant to repair sewer lines, Public Works Director Donald Crowder told the town board tonight.
He said there are dilapidated sewer lines in the town which the grant will help replace as well as some manhole covers.
In another matter tonight the town board approved spending $2,500 for an actuarial study which must done for the town to determine long-term insurance costs, Administrator Phyllis Lee said. The cost can be absorbed in the next fiscal year budget.
The board also agreed to a maximum of $10,000 to organize its codes. Lee said the current ordinance book looks like a recipe book. “You stick it where you think it belongs.”
The American League of Publishing will do the work and provide the town with the proper devices to post the ordinances on its website.
“It’s nothing that has to be done every year,” Lee said. “I would recommend to do it on an annual or biannual basis and let them know about new ordinances to keep your books up.”
Lee said $5,000 would need to be appropriated this fiscal year while the second portion can be funded next fiscal year.
In another matter tonight the board agreed to get with property owners to find out what they intend to do with their dilapidated structures before moving forward with fines or demolition.
The properties discussed were:
• A structure at 406 West First Street belonging to Ralph Dailey.
• A structure at 13 West Third Street belonging to Alton Anderson.
• A structure at West First Street belonging to John Pittman.
