Investigation continues and charges are pending following a chase Monday afternoon which stemmed from a domestic call on Georgia Avenue and ended in a collision on Hinson Street.

Interim Roanoke Rapids police Chief Bobby Martin said injuries sustained in the subsequent crash do not appear to be life-threatening.

Martin was not prepared to discuss the pending charges or release the name of the suspect who crashed into another vehicle on Hinson Street around 3:15 p.m. “We’re going to let the officers finish the investigation thoroughly.”

In a statement on the matter Martin said Sergeant T. Tyler and other officers responded to a domestic call on Georgia Avenue.

After talking with the family a man was asked to leave and he complied with Tyler and other officers.

However, as he he left, he squalled tires in his vehicle and swerved over the road.

Tyler got in his patrol vehicle and tried to catch up with the driver, who was traveling at high rates of speed.

Martin would not disclose the highest speed during the attempt to stop the suspect vehicle, only confirming the man was driving above the posted speed limit.

The driver continued onto Julian R. Allsbrook Highway and Roanoke Avenue and crossed over and turned onto Hinson Street, still driving at high rates of speed.

When Tyler saw the vehicle again the suspect driver collided with another vehicle at the intersection of Hinson Street and Branch Avenue.

Both drivers sustained injuries and were airlifted from the scene to be treated for injuries.

Two children were in the vehicle which the suspect driver struck and were transported by ambulance for treatment.
