The search for a Main Street director has been narrowed to three people and a decision could come by the middle of April.

Roanoke Avenue Business Alliance President Kim Simpson said the organization responsible for bringing the Main Street program to the city could make a decision by April 15 with the person beginning work May 1.

The director is crucial to the program as more opportunities for improvement grants are discovered, Simpson said today.

The alliance has already submitted a proposal for a facade grant, which the organization will match with $2,500.

Another grant the alliance is working on is one which would provide between $20,000 to $300,000 to a business wanting to locate on Roanoke Avenue or inspiring a business. “It has to do with getting more employers on the avenue.”

The grant could also benefit a business which wants to expand but can’t afford to, said Simpson.

Simpson said more information can be obtained on the opportunities the Main Street program will offer by attending the alliance’s regular meetings which are held at 1 p.m. on the fourth Tuesday of every month.

The April meeting will be at Timeless Tea.
