A Friday enforcement action spearheaded by the Roanoke Rapids Police Department in conjunction with 15 agencies resulted in 187 traffic stops and 158 total charges, Chief Lawrence Wiggins said.

Dubbed Operation Spring Cleaning, Wiggins said, “This operation was a success because of the hard work and preparation by members of the RRPD and the Halifax County Communication Center.”

Wiggins noted the following statistics during the operation:

148 traffic violations

One felony possession of Schedule VI count

One possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuna count

One possession of marijuana paraphernalia count

One fugitive order

One misdemeanor child abuse count

One possession of a firearm by felon count

One possession with intent to sell and deliver Schedule II count

One possession of Schedule II count

One felony fled to elude arrest count

One injury to personal property count

One open container count

Additionally, there were seven arrests; two guns seized; three outstanding orders for arrest served; two warrants for arrest served; three DWIs; 14 grams of crack seized; 155 grams of marijuna seized and $611 in cash seized.

“I would like to thank all the chiefs and sheriffs for their agencies' support with this operation,” Wiggins said. “We will continue to have these at random times throughout the year scaled up and down.”

The chief also recognized Lieutenant Darrell Jr. for coordinating the operations and the other RRPD members who assisted. “Anytime intoxicated drivers, felons in possession of firearms, and illegal narcotics are taken off the streets, that is someone’s family member who possibly got a reprieve on life,” Wiggins said.

The participating agencies were as follows: ECU Health Police Department; Nash County Sheriff’s Office; Garysburg Police Department; Weldon Police Department; Rocky Mounty Police Department; Ahoskie Police Department; Scotland Neck Police Department; Warren County Sheriff’s Office; Hertford County Sheriff’s Office; Halifax County Sheriff’s Office; Enfield Police Department; North Carolina State Highway Patrol; Edgecombe County Sheriff’s Office; Halifax County Communications; and the state Department of Health and Human Services.
