The National Weather Service Raleigh has issued an advisory highlighting two primary weather concerns for central North Carolina: Increased fire danger during the day and a frost advisory tonight.
Increased fire danger
There is an elevated risk of adverse fire behavior today across all of central North Carolina due to a combination of dry conditions and gusty winds.
Conditions: Very dry fuels, low humidity, and gusty winds are expected.
Humidity: Minimum relative humidity levels are forecasted to drop significantly, with Roanoke Rapids expected to reach 25 percent.
Burn ban: A statewide burn ban from the NC Forest Service remains in effect, making all outdoor burning illegal.
Safety measures: The NWS advises properly discarding matches and cigarette butts and remaining cautious with equipment that may produce sparks.
Frost advisory
A frost advisory has been issued for the northern Piedmont and the northern and central coastal plain, effective from 2 a.m. to 8 a.m on Tuesday.
Temperature forecast: Minimum temperatures in the advisory area are expected to be in the low to mid-30s. Roanoke Rapids is forecasted to reach a low of 33.
Impact: Frost could harm or kill sensitive outdoor vegetation if left uncovered.
Recommended action: Residents should take steps to protect tender plants from the cold.
