A man already in jail for a shooting last month in Roanoke Rapids now faces a charge of possession of a stolen vehicle that the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office alleges he intended to sell for scrap.
The vehicle, according to Major Anzell Harris, was allegedly stolen by Hunter Elliott Medlin around February 7 in the 16000 block of Highway 48 in the Enfield area. An investigation by Detective Sergeant B. Edmondson determined that the vehicle, described in the warrant as a 1996 Volvo 960, was taken to a scrap yard in Enfield where Medlin allegedly attempted to sell it.
Medlin was charged Wednesday with possession of a stolen vehicle and received a $10,000 secured bond.

He has an April 23 district court date for Wednesday’s charge. According to court records, he also has a district court disposition hearing on the same date for charges of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury and possession of a weapon by a felon.
The assault and weapon charges were lodged by the Roanoke Rapids Police Department following a shooting in the 500 block of Waldo Street on March 24.
In 2020, Medlin was convicted of felony possession of a Schedule II substance in Halifax County Superior Court and served 24 months of supervised probation, according to court records.
