A Seaboard man died this morning following a single-vehicle crash on Highway 158. A passenger in the vehicle sustained injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening, according to First Sergeant Levern Bynum of the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

A preliminary report by Trooper C.A. Hill said Clinton Tyron Davis, 57, was traveling west on Highway 158 near Thelma Road shortly before 5:15 a.m.

The vehicle crossed the center line and traveled off the roadway to the left. The vehicle struck two mailboxes and then went down an embankment, where it struck a ditch.

Bynum said Davis was pronounced dead at the scene.

Speed was not a factor in the crash, Bynum said, and alcohol is not believed to be a factor. “We’re unable to determine if it was a medical emergency or if the driver succumbed due to the impact of the crash.”
